## What is a Liquid Staking Derivative?

Liquid Staking is a process where people can take part in the network’s security and consensus by staking assets and still have them liquid. Once users stake their digital possessions, they receive Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) representing their stakes. These tokens are tradeable, sellable or usable in other DeFi protocols as they are valued similarly. This enables users to unencumber liquidity of staked assets which would need to be unlocked when unstaked.
